sPower, a Salt Lake City-based independent power producer (IPP), says it crossed the 1 GW milestone for operating solar projects before the end of 2016. This takes sPower’s total portfolio of operating renewable assets to over 1.15 GW when including its growing wind portfolio.
“We can celebrate – briefly,” jokes Ryan Creamer, sPower CEO. “While we’re humbled by the tremendous achievement, the team is more focused than ever. We have our sights set on continuing to bring online in excess of 500 MW each year from our proprietary development pipeline of 7.4 GW across the country.”
Creamer adds, “The gigawatt is an important milestone, which we share with our EPCs, banks, module suppliers, off-takers, utilities, landowners and the communities that host our projects.”
sPower has made a flurry of announcements recently as various projects achieved commercial operations; in fact, the company says it connected nearly 500 MW of solar and wind energy projects to the grid over the past couple of months. In 2016, sPower nearly doubled its balance sheet and now has more than $2.6 billion in assets, the company adds.
